About the Role
We are looking for an experienced WAS Engineer — PHP Developer with at least 2 years of hands-on PHP web application development. You will be proficient in CodeIgniter, Laravel and OpenCart, and responsible for the development, optimization and maintenance of client web applications. If you enjoy back-end work and open-source frameworks, this is your team.
Key Responsibilities
1. PHP Application Development
- Develop and maintain web applications using PHP, CodeIgniter, Laravel and OpenCart.
- Design and optimize scalable APIs and web services.
- Write clean, modular, efficient code and document changes for future work.
2. Database & Server Management
- Design and manage MySQL databases for data integrity and performance.
- Optimize queries and database structures for efficiency.
- Manage server-side logic and integrations to improve performance and security.
3. Front-End Collaboration
- Work with front-end developers and designers on dynamic, responsive applications.
- Ensure front-end components integrate cleanly with PHP back-ends.
- Troubleshoot cross-browser and cross-platform compatibility issues.
4. Website Maintenance & Support
- Monitor and maintain client websites, keeping them available and performing.
- Perform routine updates, backups and security checks; keep everything patched and current.
- Protect uptime — troubleshoot issues as they arise and implement fixes promptly.
5. Security & Technical Troubleshooting
- Debug problems across server configuration, database performance and site functionality.
- Apply security best practices, including secure API integration, authentication and authorization.
- Implement SSL, SMTP email configuration and other protective measures.
6. Client Interaction & Issue Resolution
- Work with the client support team to address technical queries and concerns.
- Understand client requirements and implement enhancements accordingly.
- Document and track recurring issues so troubleshooting gets faster over time.
7. Collaboration & Continuous Improvement
- Coordinate with developers, designers and stakeholders to deliver on time.
- Take part in code reviews and internal knowledge-sharing sessions.
- Stay current with emerging web technologies and modern development practices.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Minimum 2 years as a PHP developer.
- Strong proficiency in PHP, CodeIgniter, Laravel and OpenCart.
- At least 5 delivered projects, including payment gateway integration, API integration, SMTP email integration and eCommerce exposure.
- Experience with RESTful APIs and third-party API integrations.
- Proficiency in JavaScript, AJAX and jQuery.
- Familiarity with Git, GitHub and version-control best practices.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Electronics, Mathematics or a related field — or a completed certification program, boot camp or serious self-taught track record in web development.
- Working knowledge of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, MySQL and RESTful APIs.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with real attention to detail.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to explain technical points clearly.
- Ability to manage several pieces of work at once in a fast-paced support environment.
